Three ways to boost your NetApp Google Cloud Skills
(Key takeaways up front for readers in a rush)
- NetApp and Google Cloud teamed up to create three labs — powered by Google Cloud Skills Boost
- Lab activities take place in a real cloud environment (not a simulation or demo)
- Earn skill badges that showcase your cloud skills and cloud competencies
- Dive into the labs and boost your NetApp Cloud Solution skills now!
Managing file servers in the cloud, optimizing storage usage, protecting data — these are business-critical use cases that require a vast catalogue of hands-on skills. Which brings us to two key points:
- You know that your cloud skills are in demand and can be sharpened through demo environments and simulations.
- But you also know what every licensed pilot will confirm as indisputable fact: There is no substitute for practical experience in a real environment.
That’s why NetApp teamed up with Google Cloud to develop three skill-building labs based on real-world use cases. You’ll get the chance to learn NetApp on Google Cloud by actually using NetApp on Google Cloud. Along the way, you’ll earn skill badge credentials that showcase your cloud skills (whether on your social profile, a line on your resume, or both).
So not only will you get to chance level up your abilities and take on new, relevant challenges on Google Cloud, but you’ll also accumulate a wealth of real-world experience and — unbelievable but true — have some actual fun while you’re doing it.
How to get started levelling up now
This process is admirably straightforward. There are three labs to complete. Each must be completed in under 90 minutes (it’s a challenge-based endeavor, after all).
Difficulty level: Introductory
Value for you: This is a great way to get “up close and practical” with NetApp Cloud Manager. You’ll walk away knowing how to deploy NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP (CVO) for Google Cloud on top of Compute Engine, Persistent Disk, and Cloud Storage. You’ll also set up CVO and use it as an NFS storage for apps — which, it goes without saying, is pretty darn useful.
Difficulty level: Introductory
Value for you: You’ll learn how to use CVO for SMB workloads to optimize cloud storage usage and performance (that’s in high demand these days). An added bonus is the cyber resilience aspect of this lab. You’ll recover data from NetApp snapshots and use Windows (natively) to optimize storage consumption for any workload. Ever done thin provisioning and data tiering with Cloud Manager? You will now.
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Value for you: This is the best way to get familiar with the additional tools available in CVO for Google Cloud. You’ll go hands-on with CVO’s built-in GUI (ONTAP System Manager) and CLI (clustershell). Which means you’ll be using capabilities readily available in CVO but not yet available in Cloud Manager. This includes resizing a NetApp volume and creating customized snapshot policies, among other valuable tricks.
There’s no way without know-how
Whether it’s deploying NetApp cloud solutions on top of a Google Cloud Infrastructure or using CVO’s built-in management tools with Cloud Manager, there’s no question:
Any chance to prove and improve your skills is an opportunity waiting to be seized. So don’t wait to level up. Visit Google Cloud Skills Boost and let the real-world fun begin!
