Sustainability in the Cloud
The planet we call home continues to nourish life and inspire wonders. Our environment works hard to sustain us, which calls for us to return the favor. And so Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
Google Cloud takes sustainability seriously and that’s why they partner with nonprofits, research organizations, governments, and businesses to build technology and tools to accelerate meaningful change.
Infact, Cloud Computing can save billions of dollars in energy costs and reduce carbon emissions by millions of metric tons. It presents businesses with the ability to reduce their energy consumption, cut their carbon footprint, and shift to a greener and smarter future.
To help their customers acheive this, last year Google Cloud shared the average hourly Carbon Free Energy Percentage (CFE%) for the majority of Google Cloud regions along with a new tool leveraging this data — a Google Cloud region picker — that helps their customers assess key inputs like price, latency to their end users and carbon footprint, as they choose which Google Cloud region to run on.
In 2020, Google matched 100 percent of its global electricity use with purchases of renewable energy and became the first company of their size to achieve this milestone back in 2017, and repeat this accomplishment every year since!
Although Earth Day is celebrated today, Google Cloud’s passion for sustainability never waivers. As they continue to operate the cleanest cloud in the industry, working along a growing group of cloud customers focused on reducing the carbon impact of their operations.
On this Earth Day, learn why Google Cloud is the cleanest cloud in the industry by exploring and leveraging sustainability tools with A Tour of Google Cloud Sustainability where you will learn how to explore your carbon footprint data, use the Cloud Region Picker and reduce your cloud carbon footprint with Active Assist recommendations.
